The Search For Significance

My journal entry for the day...

I haven't had my journal all week - it's in a friend's car - and I am missing it a lot today because I am working from home and have more time to spend with the Lord.

Anyway, often times He speaks to me through songs. Today I am listening to some new ones on my roomie's computer because she is gone to Uganda for a week.

This one called, "Mercy" is so powerful - Him singing to me (us)...

"What shall I do with you, my love? What shall I do with you?
For your loyalty to Me is like the morning clouds, like the dew that goes away so early.
You keep bringing me sacrifices to ease your mind...but it's your heart that I want.
Hasn't it been a long road...disappointment...chasing after lovers that just throw you away.
Are you done fighting now? Shame was never meant to be your portion.
Though your sins are red as scarlet, I will wash them white in My mercy..."

At the new year, I decided to read & re-read John until it's written on my heart. Funny thing is, I haven't made it past John 6 yet. I also pulled out my Amplified since I hadn't used it for at least 4 years, so that makes everything longer :) I keep re-reading each chapter as I go because it tastes like fresh bread. For the past 2 weeks I've been in John 6 where it speaks of bread, vs. 47-58...

"I am the Bread of Life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and yet they died. But this is the Bread that comes down from heaven, so that anyone may eat of it and never die. I Myself am this Living Breat that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever; and also the Bread that I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh. Then the Jews angrily contended with one another, saying, How is He able to give us His flesh to eat? And Jesus said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you cannot have any life in you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood (unless you appropriate His life & the saving merit of His blood). He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood possesses now eternal life, and I will raise him up from the dead on the last day. For My flesh is true and genuine food, and My blood is true and genuine drink. He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood dwells continually in Me & I in like manner dwell continually in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me shall live through and because of Me. This is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever."

Just meditate on that for awhile...you will start to feel full...

2008 in review...

Hello friends.
I have thought about things I should post a lot for the past 2 months, but never had time at the computer to do it before I forgot! I don't have a computer, so I use my roommates', and usually I am doing work on it.

Paula Beth posted this a couple days ago & I enjoyed it because it's a fairly quick review but still gives a pretty honest idea of what the past year was like. So, here it goes...

1) Where did you begin 2008?
-In a new house with new roommates (besides 1). My roommate, Lorin, & I moved in with 3 other girls right before Christmas. Still in waco, deeper into the hood, but LOVED it. By far my favorite place to live thus far in my life :).

2) What was your status by Valentine's Day?
-Single...as I have been since I was born almost 28 years ago...still waiting.

3) Were you in school anytime this year?
-In the spring I was in the 2nd 1/2 of Elevate - a discipleship training school at my church. That finished on June 4th.

4) How did you earn your money?
-A myriad of ways, actually...
Jan - File clerk for HR at hospital & office asst. from home for a dance teacher
Feb - same, plus director for Kids Perspectives - missions course - 5 hours a week - mostly on Thurs. nights.
Mar - same, until mid month when the office asst. job ended
Apr - File clerk & Kids Perspectives Director
May - none- I was outreaching to Muslims in Tunisia, Africa!
Jun - Taught summer school for Waco ISD. Position- 6th-8th gr. Bilingual....wow. It was actually a lot of fun! :)
Jul - looking for a job..........
Aug - Paul Farney Floral Productions - delivering flowers, cleaning, etc.
Sep - nanny every morning for 2 toddlers, flower job in the afternoons
Oct - quit the flower job, nanny-ing only - LOVING it!
Nov - Nanny in the mornings, Field Manager for a tutoring Co. at 2 high schools - 10 hrs. a week
Dec - same as Nov.

5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
-no, praise the Lord!

6) Did you have any encounters with the police?
-not that I can remember...

7) Where did you go on vacation (holiday)?
-home to family in Bridgeport, Tx on Spring Break & other holidays
-Tunisia...wasn't a vacation, but a great trip!
-Montana to a wedding for a few days in July

8) Did you know anybody who got married?
-Bethany Bewsher (old roommate) - now Steadman
-Brittani Shephard (waco friend) - now Harnden
-Lauren Nelson (waco friend) - now Allen
-Sarah Mathis (old roommate & life-long friend) - now Nowery
-Tiffany Crisp (old-school friend :) - now Noviske

9) Did you know anybody who passed away?
-not that I can remember...

10) Did you move anywhere?
Yes - in Aug. we moved across the street...into the house my roommate owns...still remodeling it...

11) Describe your favorite month in 2008
-wow...there were great & worst moments in every month, but I had 2 favorites:
May in Tunisia...AND June - teaching summer school & living with Steph.

12) Describe your worst month in 2008
-I wouldn't call them the worst, but maybe the hardest were Aug & Sep.

13) Describe your birthday?
-my new roommates invited people over to our house, cooked Mexican food. We talked, played Psychiatrist, and they wrote encouragement notes to me...it was nice. It was the day after our huge annual mission conference here, so we were all pretty worn out, & I was recovering from being really sick...so I remember all of that more than my actual birthday - ha!

14) What's something you learned about yourself?
-I am still afraid & insecure about a lot of things. I need the grace & mercy of Jesus more than I ever realized before...

15.) What music will you remember 2008 by?
-the song I listened to the most - Healer, by Planet Shakers.
I also started listening to Jonathan David Helser & Kim Walker this year - LOVE their prophetic worship - you should check it out!

16) Any regrets in 2008?
-Yes...not responding to every prompting of the Holy Spirit...whether it was to reach out to a stranger or simply do more things that are in my heart to do...there were many things I was still to afraid to do.

17) What do you hope 2009 brings?
-Dental Insurance! I've had 4 cavities for 1 1/2 yrs that need to be filled!
-more freedom from fear, which only comes from a deeper revelation of His love.

still feeling lost

The past 2 weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions.

The first week, after resting, I got to begin settling into my house.

The 2nd week I found out about a 2nd grade teaching position suddenly open at a private school in town. As I began to pursue, I found out it entailed all the things I love about teaching without all the things I despise...what could be more perfect, right? I had an informal interview with the principal on Mon. morning, thought/dreamed about teaching ideas all week before she called for a 2nd interview with the board on Friday. It was a horrible interview. Well, horrible for me, anyway, because I usually interview really well & it didn't go so well. I cried twice. Needless to say, I found out Sunday that I didn't get the job.

I trust the Lord, not me, & know that His plan must have been for someone else to have the job. However, I question the reason for this week of stirring up my creativity & passion for teaching, only to have it halted. As I helped 2 friends finish their classrooms on Sunday, and as I thought about the first day of school all day on Monday, I feel more lost than ever. I know it's only because that's a safe place where I could fit/belong and not because I missed God...but during this season of in between that I don't understand, it sure would feel nice to fit somewhere neatly. God doesn't work like that. He's all outside the box.

And to make matters harder, for the past 5 months a guy friend has been back & forth with calling or not, emailing or not, sending mixed signals as to his interest. I thought he had stopped a month ago, only to start again on Sat. when he called to see how my interview (which I didn't even tell him about) went...The only reason it matters is because I really like him & hate this up & down business...especially when I don't understand what God's doing in/with my life right now!

There's been a song on the radio recently by a band called Sanctus Real. The words of the chorus go like this...
"Whatever You're doing inside of me,
it feels like chaos, but I believe,
You're up to something bigger than me...
larger than life...
something heavenly."

P.S. I am reading The Shack & am learning so much. I highly pass on the recommendations I had from friends.

the past few weeks...

Since I last wrote I...
1. Got a job with a floral designer (check out their work at www.paulfarney.com)

2. Spent 4 days in Montana for Sarah Mathis' wedding...and had a BLAST! it was tons of fun laughing, driving, & rooming with Sarah Wilson, Lori, & Kelsey (the "single" friends who made the trek), as well as the married ones - Lacey & Luke from Lubbock. Plus I got to spend time with Sarah's family - whom I LOVE!

3. We moved (my roommate & I) across the street to the house my roommate owns...which you would think should be easier than most moves...but wasn't...because the tenants living there decided not to move their things & be out of town that weekend...so we had to move a lot for them in order to move in...yeah, not fun.

4. I'm house/dog sitting this weekend at a great big house with a pool! My sister came to stay with me, so it's been relaxing & fun :)!

Check out my pictures from the wedding on facebook!
